We invite papers that begin to map an “Asian American South,” a term that this panel construes broadly. In what ways do Asian American cultural productions engage with the South? How are cross-racial interactions depicted? How does the context of southern regionalism complicate Asian American subjectivity? Is there an “Asian Southern literature”? This panel welcomes considerations of Asian Americans as travelers to and settlers in the South, in film, fiction, poetry, and memoir, from any time period. By July 13, 2012, please submit a 250-word abstract and a brief bio to Sailaja Sastry, Barnard College, ssastry@Barnard.edu.
