This age of Black Lives Matter invites Italian Americans to reflect on their own histories with racism in the US and to look critically at the process through which they have achieved a provisional whiteness. This panel welcomes the contributions of scholars from different disciplines to a racialized rereading of Italian-American history and cultural production. Suggested topics include:

• Representations of African-American characters in Italian-American film and literature

• Representations of Italian-American characters in African-American film and literature

• Racialized histories of Italian American migration

• Whiteness, Italian-American identity, and the Columbus myth

• Italian-American and African-American communities

• Italian-American identity in a multiracial new millennium
