Call for Papers: AI and What It Means to Create: A Cross-Disciplinary Conversation
Extended Deadline: 27 March 2023

Considerations of AI in the humanities can often feel cataclysmic or even apocalyptic. While discussing concerns is undoubtedly important, this panel turns towards the question of how departments can support informed and creative responses to, and good practice regarding, AI technology. This cross-disciplinary conversation aims to attract speakers from writing studies, literary studies, and creative writing, all examining what AI means for teaching, writing, and creating.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Using AI as groundwork for essays, assignments, and projects
  • The ethics of AI generated texts and materials
  • Approaches to AI across fields in literary studies, writing studies, and creative writing and how they can inform each other
  • Ways department chairs can support innovative and creative teaching that involves AI

We invite 250-word abstracts from scholars, instructors, and practitioners in the above mentioned and other English related fields. Please send submissions to Janine M. Utell from the Modern Language Association (jutell@mla.org) no later than Monday, 20 March 2023.
