Call for Papers: Next-Generation Research in English and World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures: Two Graduate Student Showcases

Across English and world languages, literatures, and cultures, graduate students are developing engaging, inventive, and transformative projects that envision their disciplines in new and exciting ways. In an effort to highlight this “next-gen scholarship,” two parallel sessions will feature lightning round presentations to offer a snapshot of where these fields are headed.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Community-centered projects
  • “Next-gen” and multimodal dissertations
  • Collaborative work
  • Interdisciplinary projects, including those bridging humanities or STEM disciplines
  • Critical-creative and genre-bending projects
  • Public-facing/publicly-engaged projects

We invite MA and PhD students at all stages to submit 250-word abstracts on their innovative projects by 28 March 2023. For the session focused on English and related fields, please send submissions to Janine M. Utell, Modern Language Association/Association of Departments of English (jutell@mla.org). For the session focused on world languages, literatures, and cultures, send submissions to Lydia B. Tang, Modern Language Association/Association of Language Departments (ltang@mla.org).
