What Are You Looking At?: Applications of Emerging Technology in the Liberal Arts Classroom (NeMLA Conference 2025)

Philadelphia, PA
Organization: NeMLA
Event: NeMLA Conference 2025
Categories: Digital Humanities, Pedagogy
Event Date: 2025-03-06 to 2025-03-09 Abstract Due: 2024-09-30

This roundtable explores new and emerging technologies in the classroom and in instructors' personal pedagogies. For example, using an eye-tracking camera to study how undergraduates read texts with multiple modes (visual and textual) such as Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and then using that data to develop a set of pedagogical techniques that visually show students how they read and how that process aligns with their perceptions of reading.

We seek proposals from other scholars and graduates who can present on the technologies, methodologies, findings, and implications for pedagogy. Some potential topics of conversation:

-- What are the pedagogical implications and applications of new and emerging technologies in the classroom?

-- What methodologies and study designs have proven (in)effective?

-- How might these new and emerging technologies be applied in ways that inform classroom practice in the future?
