This panel invites proposals which closely look at the relationship of the Dalit community and other subaltern communities of postcolonial countries and ecological disasters – both natural and man-made faced by them. Ironically, these communities contribute the least to environmental degradation, as they generally practice a self-sustainable lifestyle, but face the brunt of these catastrophes, both economically and societally, with their women being the worst victims as they already are double subjugated by patriarchy and the caste system. By analyzing how various postcolonial novelists, eco-critics, and activists engage with the Dalit community and other subaltern communities, and their experiences with ecological disasters, panelists can investigate the complex relationships between these communities, neocolonialism, environmental degradation, caste, and gender.

Potential contributors can take the help of these research questions:

· How have postcolonial authors, and eco-critics theorized the social and economic effects of ecological disasters on the Dalit community and other subaltern communities?

· How have women of these communities suffered more than their menfolk, due to the environmental degradation brought about by neocolonialism?

· How can literary forms help us to better understand the toxic relationships between these communities, and ecological disasters?

· How can literary theories and narratives help us to deal with ecological crises, learn lessons, and help us to live a self-sustainable lifestyle?
