Literary and Cultural Communities Between Asia and the Hispanophone World (NEMLA)

From the early European missionaries who ventured into Asia all the way to the contemporary networks of connection that currently link Spain and Latin America countries like China, Japan and Korea, the cultural, literary and artistic links between Asia and the Hispanophone world run deep. Based on religious, linguistic, cultural, literary or artistic points of contact, numerous groups and communities have maintained active and productive lines of connection that have transform their own localities through the implementation of imported ideas, products, concepts from the other side of the world.
Considering the long-standing lines of dialogue between these two vast geographic spaces, we invite scholars reflecting on questions such as: How Hispanophone writers and artists have searched in Asian literary practices spaces for renewal and innovation? How communities from Asian countries have assimilated and reinterpreted Latin American cultural products? How do the cultural products and creative practices of the two sides of the Pacific Ocean mirror/distort/reinvent each other? Papers dealing with literature, theatre, cinema, and other cultural productions are welcome.
This is board-sponsored panel accepts presentations in English and Spanish are welcome.
