WANT TO EDIT AN ISSUE OF A JOURNAL?

• The Journal of Undergraduate Research in the Humanities (JURH) is looking for guest editors for our Summer 2027 issue.

WHAT IS JURH?

• JURH is an annual journal that provides a national forum to showcase the best in undergraduate Humanities research. Click here to learn more about JURH.

• JURH is governed by a board of nationally recognized scholars and overseen by Dr. Lara Karpenko, Professor of English, and Director of the Center for the Humanities at Carroll University and Dr. Lauri Dietz, Executive Director, Center for Faculty Development, Loyola University, Chicago.

• In even years (2024, 2026, etc.), JURH is run by an editorial team of undergraduates. In odd years, the journal hosts a themed special issue from a guest editor or editorial team.

WHO CAN APPLY AND WHAT IS EXPECTED?

• Guest Editors can be graduate students, staff, or faculty from any 2- or 4-year institution in the United States or around the world.
• Note that we will also consider undergraduate editors as long as they have a committed faculty or staff member to support them through the process. Faculty or staff member should be named on the application.

• In addition to single-editor proposals, we are also happy to consider editorial teams of 2 to 4.

• Editors are expected to write the CFP, advertise the CFP (with support from the JURH board), accept and decline submissions, work with authors to get the essays submission-ready, write the issue introduction, copyedit all material, and format the issue according to JURH specifications.
• The complete issue will be due to JURH by July 1, 2027.

• Issues should be themed and feature undergraduate work. Occasionally, however, the themed issue can feature work from other writing populations. See, for instance, our themed second issue which features the work of high school researchers and that also includes a round table discussion between high school educators.

HOW TO APPLY?

• All prospective editors should send proposals in an email attachment to Dr. Lara Karpenko at lkarpenk@carrollu.edu by November 1, 2026. Proposals should explain:
-The proposed theme and why it’s relevant to JURH
-Who the intended writers are
-If any authors are already lined up
-Where the editors intend to circulate the CFP
-A proposed timeline for completion of work

• Prospective editors should also send brief bios and/or CVs that explain any experience in editing or project management. (Note that experience isn’t required.) Please submit one bio or CV for each editor.
