Transcultural Adaptation of Shakespeare (Seminar)

Cultural Studies and Media Studies

Madiha Hannachi (Université de Montréal)

One of the features of global Shakespeare in the 21st century is the proliferation of transcultural adaptations around the world. This panel seeks to shed light on these adaptations across languages, cultures, religions, and even platforms (theatre, TV, cinema, video games, social media, and other forms of pop culture). Proposals are invited for presentations on aspects of transcultural adaptations of Shakespeare.

Papers that cross disciplinary and/or national boundaries are especially welcome.

Topics include but are not limited to:

*Shakespeare outside the Commonwealth

*Non-English adaptations of Shakespeare

*Translating Shakespeare

*Shakespeare and pop culture

*Shakespeare 2.0

*Shakespeare and Islam

*Shakespeare in Africa

*Shakespeare in Asia

*Shakespeare in Latin America

*Shakespeare in the Arab World

Please submit 200-word (max.) proposals.
