Literature from the Antipodes has become increasingly influential. The New Zealand writers Janet Frame, Katherine Mansfield, Keri Hulme, Alan Duff; Australian writers Colleen McCullough, Joan Lindsay, and Miles Franklin are only a few of the prominent names. Significant antipodal literature has recently explored themes of colonial versus native cultures, nation building, indigenous culture and nature versus imposed Western vision of what should be. The inclusion of a panel devoted to literature of the antipodes would enrich NeMLA.
Papers are invited on literature from the Antipodes which explore such themes as colonial versus native cultures, indigenous culture and nature versus imposed Western vision of what should be, nation building, problems of identity, environmental crises, and the like.
