Between Silence and Verse (Creative)

Spanish/Portuguese / Creative Writing, Editing and Publishing

Lena Retamoso-Urbano (United States Coast Guard Academy)

To wonder is to produce suspended bridges between the possible and the impossible; the real and the imaginary. It is to interact with things, people, experiences, phenomena, sensations, dreams, traditions, innovations, and ideas as if none of them had borders or limits. It is also to inhabit the interstitial space where silence and verse merge: a world wherein our inner selves dive deeply into our encounters with the other. Throughout history, humans have been able to use objects of art to express and configure a platform of continuous dialogue with each other, within multiple spaces, and transcending the prison of a measurable time. We have produced, as a result, marvelous encounters between chance, the observer, and the observed. Wonder is another way to visualize our capacity for change and resistance. I invite you to submit poems that address the creation of alternative poetic realities and that speak to the possibility of transformation and the embodiment of a metaphorical state through desire and inner contemplation.
